Pierce Downer PTA Event Guidelines
Pierce Downer PTA is fortunate to use District 58 building spaces for PTA-sponsored events and activities throughout the year. Many of those events would not happen without this privilege.
At all PTA events – regardless of location – participants are expected to follow the same Behavior Expectations that apply during the school day: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. We understand that it is exciting for our students to be in the building after hours, but we need to work together to ensure we may continue to use these spaces.
Please keep in mind and discuss with your student(s) that PD PTA events are volunteer-led. All event participants should be respectful to the volunteers and other participants. Disruptive behavior impedes everyone’s ability to fully participate in PTA activities and will not be tolerated. Parents will be contacted to pick up any disruptive participants. The PD Behavior Expectations for participants at PTA-sponsored activities mirror the PD School Behavior Expectations.
PTA Event Parent Volunteers / Chaperones/ Participants:
When signing up to volunteer at a PTA-sponsored event or activity, please follow these guidelines:
● When you commit to a volunteer role, PTA and PD students are counting on you. Please make every effort to find a replacement if extraordinary circumstances prevent you from fulfilling your commitment
● Be respectful of the spaces we are using. Students should remain in the assigned areas and refrain from using classroom or building materials that are not a part of the event.
● Event chaperones need to be fully engaged with the students and provide adult supervision throughout the event.
● As a PTA volunteer/chaperone, you are responsible for monitoring the conduct of the participants at all times during the PTA event. All event participants should be respectful to the volunteers and other participants.
● When stated, if a parent is required to attend with their student(s) it is for the enjoyment and safety of all and therefore cannot be a drop-off event. Parents will be contacted.
● Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Contact the event chairperson if an issue needs to be addressed. Parents will be contacted to pick up any disruptive participants.
● As Chairpersons of an event, those parents are agreeing to serve as the Incident Manager and will be the starting point of contact for any safety or disciplinary concerns.
● We encourage and appreciate it when PD Faculty and Staff can attend a PTA event. It is exciting for the students and a great way to build community. That said, Volunteer
● Chairpersons and Incident Managers are still in charge of the event and Faculty and Staff are not expected to fulfill disciplinary roles.
● If you are volunteering at the end of the activity/event, please help throw away any trash and clean up the space. We hope to leave the space better than we found it!
HAVE FUN! Engage with student participants and serve as a role model for them. Thank you for volunteering your time on behalf of Pierce Downer PTA!
