PTA Membership & Annual Giving – Our annual Giving Campaign is in full swing and off to a great start. We are asking for $90 per child, but please give what is comfortable for your family. Every amount helps to support the wonderful programs offered at Pierce Downer. The Pierce Downer PTA is a 501c3 not for profit organization and any donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Curriculum Night – Pierce Downer’s Curriculum Night is next Tuesday, September 13th starting at 5:30pm (check the school web site for your grade’s specific time slot). Each classroom’s PTA Room Representative will speak briefly about their role and how you can sign up online for classroom parties and art awareness. The sign-up will be released the following day, Wednesday 9/14 at noon via PTA email.
Junior Great Books – Calling all readers! Junior Great Books is a voluntary reading program in which students in grades 1 – 6 are grouped by grade level to discuss stories. The program, originated by the University of Chicago, is designed to promote critical thinking skills. Students meet in groups during their lunch time to discuss the stories they have read. To enroll your child in Junior Great Books, email your child’s name, grade/teacher and your email address to Leslie Murphy lesliebmurphy@gmail.com by Friday, September 30, 2016. We also need parent volunteers to lead groups (20 minutes, once a week for 5-6 weeks). For more information, click on 2016 – 2017 Junior Great Books Program. PD School Directory Cover Art Contest – Final reminder! All entries for the school directory cover must be submitted by end of the school day THIS Friday, September 9th. The theme for the artwork should be “We are PD.” Click on Directory Art Contest 2016-2017 for contest guidelines. Mr. Sisul will select the winning artwork.
Fun Lunch – Online ordering for Fun Lunch is now open at www.orderlunches.com. If you did not receive ordering information by email last week, please go to our PTA web site. Full instructions can be found here. The deadline to submit your food orders is Thursday September 15th.
