Variety Show –This is it! The Variety Show is Saturday! Turn in your DVD/Pic forms and money so you and your children will remember this awesome show. If you have misplaced your form the office has extras in the folder labeled The Variety Show DVD/Pic Forms. Thursday March 15th is the deadline!
Science Olympiad – Science Olympiad Fun Night is April 13th from 6:15pm-8:00pm. Registration is now open! See the Science Olympiad Flyer 2018 for more information about this year’s Math & Science event. Your child must be registered by Friday, April 6th to participate. Battle of the Bands Kids Show – Our family friendly show will be on Friday, April 6th at 6:00pm in the upstairs room at the Moose, 1030 Warren Ave. Bring the family! Invite your neighbors! This show is open to the public and we want to fill the house!
VIP Day – Parents of 1st graders and 5th graders, please be on the look out this week for the VIP flyer. VIP day will be Friday, April 27th from 9:30 A.M. -11:30 A.M. VIP (Very Important Person) Day will recognize the importance of our heritage, our community, and relationships across generations! Examples of Very Important People include grandparents, family members, babysitters, family friends, coaches or a special neighbor. STEAM- Language Labs-
- FRENCH (Back by popular demand!): French Classes are being extended at PD. Class is during lunch. The Language Labs wants to continue further enriching young minds by offering FRENCH! Madame Marie-Colette a native from Nomandy, France is ready to teach her lessons in fun and engaging ways! Classes will be on Fridays during lunch/recess from April 6-June 1 for all students (K-6). - SPANISH (Extended spring session): The Language Labs is extending their lunchtime lessons through the spring. Classes will be on Mondays during lunch/recess from April 9-May 21 for all students (K-6). Click here for flyer and registration.
Reading Games – Pierce Downer had 10 teams compete in District 58’s annual The Reading Games Competition last Saturday where they read 15 books and answered questions about the books. Congratulations to all the teams that competed: Animals, Book Bosses, Reading Rebels, Rockin’ Readers, The Hoodyz, The Peoplez, The Reading Warriors,The Sugar Rushers, The Book Demons and Electricity Tasers.
REMINDERS
Doughnut Day! – Students, bring your positive MALE role model (Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, etc.) to school for doughnuts, coffee and conversation!
- 4th- 6th grade students – Come to the Pierce Downer Gym THIS THURSDAY, March 15th at 7:40am. Everyone will be dismissed at 8:10am to line up outside with their class.

Coding Club – Due to popular demand, another session of the Pierce Downer Coding Club will begin after Spring Break for students in grades 3-5. This club is for interested students who participated in the first Coding Club session, as well as students with little or no knowledge of Scratch programming who are keen to learn how to create animated stories and games. Previous Coding Club members need only return the Pierce Downer Coding Club permission slip; new members must send in both that form and a filled-out DG58 Student Online Account Permission Form. Please return all forms by Friday, March 23rd.
