Book Fair Extended – Looking to get a jump start on summer reading and/or donate a book to your child’s classroom? Anderson’s Bookstore will still allow orders from the Spring Book Fair!!  Families can select home delivery (small fee) or pickup at our local Anderson’s bookstore. All profits will benefit the Pierce Downer school library. Also, teacher wish lists are still accessible on the book fair website PD Bookfair Teacher Wishlist .  This is a great way to stock your student’s classroom library!!

– Click (Add to Cart) for each book you would like to purchase

The flyer for 2021-22 is attached here.  To order your school kits, please go online to www.carlsonschoolkits.com, click on Downers Grove, and select Pierce Downer.  Remember to order for your children’s NEXT year grade!  Please also note that there are some optional items for purchase such as white t-shirts (adult Medium) for Art, and headphones, should you want them.  Kits will be at school in your children’s classrooms for the first day of school in the fall.  Our sale closes June 20, 2021. The PTA could not accomplish all of the programs, events, and services for PD without your help!  We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the following committees/volunteers who we did not thank previously.  Many of these committees work behind the scenes on a daily or weekly basis without recognition:
 
Thank you to Carin Hawkins, Dee O’Driscoll, Meganne Wecker, Jennifer Klemz, Lori Doy, Erin Guth, Elizabeth Dean, Maggie Roth, Amanda Moore, Nancy Deaton, Stephanie Vroman and Elizabeth Riley for giving our 6th graders a wonderful DVD and yearbook, as well as volunteering for the 6th grade breakfast. They worked tirelessly to make such beautiful keepsakes and a memorable breakfast for our 6th graders. 
 
Thank you to Kelly Henrikson, Jamie Moss and Donna Miller for coordinating and organizing the Art Awareness program!  Even though we had to participate in art awareness outside of school, they provided us with a few very detailed videos on how to make art at home.
 
Thank you to Victoria Jacknow for coordinating the Charleston Wrap fall fundraiser.
 
Thank you to Victoria Jacknow for coordinating spirit wear this year. 
 
Thank you to all of the volunteers that help in the Lunchroom and during intermission breaks.  Also a big thank you to our Room Representatives.

Thank you to Veronica Roche and Vicky Farag for coordinating the New Family playdates.

Thank you to Gina Harrison, Megan Altholz, Kelly Rakers and their committee for coordinating the book fair. 
 
Thank you to Jennie Amidei, Carin Hawkins and the Service Learning Committee for helping our students connect with individuals and families in our community with activities throughout the year.
 
Thank you to our Sunshine Lady, Kelly Henrikson, for coordinating all the Sunshine activities for our school families, staff, and crossing guards this year.

Thank you to Lindsay Frost for organizing our classroom subscriptions.
 
Thank you to Leigh Anne Larsen for updating our outdoor message board this year.
 
Thank you to Karen Mellen for the wonderful all-school yearbook she produced.
 
Thank you to Kelly Henrikson, Kelly Larsen, Katie Hardy and the Healthy Kids Committee members for giving their time year-round to keep our kids physically active, nutritionally aware, and engaged in helping the environment.
 
Thank you to Donna Miller for chairing the Reflections Art Program.
 
Thank you to Victoria Jacknow and Jen Meggos for coordinating Teacher Appreciation Week.
 
Thank you to Megan Shoemaker for coordinating volunteers for Field Day.
 
A HUGE thank you to all of the co-chairs and committees that were involved in so many events that did not happen this year, including: VIP Day, Dads/donuts, Sweetheart Dance, Panther Pacers, Variety Show, Battle of the Bands, Welcome Back Party, End of Year Party, Fun Run, and Kickbowl to name a few.  So many hours went into preparing these events and we truly appreciate all that you do!
 
And finally, a huge thank you to our outgoing PTA Board Members – Nicki Blattner, Megan Shoemaker, Kerry Sharpee and Kelly Henrikson. We all appreciate the many years you served Pierce Downer on the PTA Board!
 
We wish all of our PD community a safe and relaxing summer!

REMINDERS

Crossing Guard End of Year Collection – If you would like to contribute to the Crossing Guards Year End Gift please drop off your donation by the end of school on Friday, June 4th to the Muller’s Home (which is on the corner of Grant and Oakwood, kitty corner from PD) at 4501 Oakwood Ave. Please put CASH ONLY in an envelope and write the following on the envelope: (1) Crossing Guard Collection, and (2) Your Family Name. No checks please, as the money is going directly to the crossing guards.

Volunteer Signup – The PTA is beginning to plan our volunteer opportunities for the 2021-22 school year and will be using Sign Up to help us organize our volunteer efforts. This information helps us form committees, especially those that need to be up & running in August (i.e.: New Family Welcome, Room Reps, Copy Helpers and Welcome Back Party).  Please sign up for what interests you and also keep in mind that while we are hopeful that all of these events can take place during the next school year, we will be following all District 58 guidelines:
