STEAM – Currently enrolling for Bricks 4 Kidz and Chess Scholars! See below for details!
  • Bricks 4 Kidz Lego Classes – ACT FAST-Classes fill up quickly. Bricks 4 Kidz® is excited to return to Pierce Downer Elementary! Their after-school enrichment classes provide an exciting atmosphere for students to build unique creations, play games, and have loads of fun using LEGO® bricks. A winter session is being offered for grades K-6 beginning Friday, January 17th from 3-4pm. This class is 8 sessions. Click here for more information and registration details..
  • Chess Scholars – Still time to sign up!  Chess Scholars is offering classes which began this past Monday, December 16th from 2pm-3pm. It will run until March 9th. No classes 12/23, 12/30, 1/20, 2/17. No experience necessary; the class is open to all students (K-6). Children will be taught the game and have guided practice time. KOHA – This holiday season, KOHA invites the community to shop local and earn money to support your District 58 schools! Shop and spend at participating KOHA businesses throughout the holidays and the school with the highest number of receipts uploaded wins! KOHA will double the winning school’s combined receipt dollar amount, up to $1,000. Please note that all receipts must be uploaded within 14 days of purchase.  Click here to learn more!
 
Pierce Downer End of Year Crossing Guard Collection – Last week! If you would like contribute to the Crossing Guards End of Year Gift please drop off your donation in the box marked “Crossing Guards” in the School Office. Cash only and add your name to envelope.  Please drop off your contribution at PD by the end of school day tomorrow, Wednesday, December 18th.
December “Minute of Empathy” – If you missed the video presentation from www.SharingConnections.org, take a Minute (of Empathy) to watch this short video https://vimeo.com/359383446 and discuss with your family how you can “furnish hope” for families in need in the near future.
 
SLC Thank you – Thank you to the 40+ Pierce Downer families who stuffed 105 Christmas Stockings for Sharing Connections recipients last week! Another big thank you goes out to all those (teachers and families!) who donated gifts for the stockings and the army of helpers who helped prepped the donations, decorated the gym, checked-in students, assisted at the craft tables, set up the lunch tables, hooked up A/V, cleaned up the gym, etc. These service opportunities cannot happen without all of YOU! Please continue to spread the love & kindness not only during this season, but way into next year!! (Our January Event will be a visit to a nursing home.)
 
Thank you to all who participated in the City BBQ Fundraiser last week, because of you we raised $415 for Pierce Downer!

Shop and spend at participating KOHA businesses throughout the holidays and the school with the highest number of receipts uploaded wins! December “Minute of Empathy” – Learn about the families that Sharing Connections serves. Their website www.SharingConnections.org states their clients, “have been previously homeless, unemployed and working poor, veterans, victims of domestic violence, immigrants, individuals with mental or physical disabilities, victims of fire, flood and natural disasters, etc. They have housing, but are faced with the harsh reality that their home is empty or severely under-furnished.” The Vision of Sharing Connections is “Everyone eats at a table and sleeps in a bed.” Their Mission is “Share good things with good people.” Learn more here https://vimeo.com/359383446 and discuss with your family how you can support those less fortunate than us.
 
REMINDERS

City BBQ dine-out – Please come join us in supporting PD at City BBQ (located on the NW corner of Ogden and Main in the strip mall) this Thursday, December 12th. Flyers will be going home with your students or simply click here to present this flyer. 25% of your purchase goes directly back to PD!!

Fun Lunch – As a reminder, second half of the school year fun lunch ordering is now available! Please click here to order and make sure to register each of your children that will be participating.  The school password is PDE257. Lunch orders are DUE by Sunday, December 15th! Pierce Downer End of Year Crossing Guard Collection – If you would like contribute to the Crossing Guards End of Year Gift please drop off your donation in the box marked “Crossing Guards” in the School Office. If you would like your name listed on the cards please make sure to add your name on your envelope. No checks please, as the money is going directly to the crossing guards. Stocking Stuffer Packing Party is TODAY – Thank you to all families and teachers who donated gifts for the stockings!! When you arrive, please line up outside the gym doors so participants can check-in before the Sharing Connections presentation.
