SLC Stocking Stuffer Packing Party – Help the Service Learning Committee bring joy to children in need this holiday season…we are hosting a Stocking Stuffer Packing Party on Tuesday, December 10th from 3:10-4:30pm in the Pierce Downer gym. The SLC is partnering with Sharing Connections of Downers Grove (www.SharingConnections.org) to fill 125 stockings with toys and gifts that will be given to underserved children in our community. There will be a short presentation about Sharing Connections at the beginning of the packing party. Please click here to reserve your spot at the packing party and to choose the items you wish to donate. If you are unable to attend the event, you can still participate by donating items from the list you will find on the registration link (above). Please have your children drop off unwrapped items by Monday, Dec. 9th in the boxes near the office, or you can bring them to the Student Council Movie Night on Friday, December 6th.

Reflections Advancing Projects– We are so incredibly proud of our Pierce Downer students. We had 12 entries in this year’s PTA Reflections contest, “Look Within”. Students displayed skill and imagination through their artwork. The entries are an impressive display of our school’s creativity and talent. Here are the participants:

  • Literature: 3rd-5th- Priya Fisher
  • Music Composition: 3rd-5th- Breatrix Hawkins, Briley Steffes

  • Visual Arts: K-2nd- Greyson Miller; 3rd-5th- Avery Miller, Micah Principe; 6th grade- Ingrid Dombrowski

Thank you to all participants. Each student mentioned above will proceed to compete at the District level. They will be honored Tuesday, December 3rd during a ceremony at Herrick Middle School with our very own Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Smith presenting. Great work to all our promising artists!

Trivia Night – Registration is open for Pierce Downer Trivia Night: College Edition, which will be held on February 8, 2020 at the Moose Lodge! Register your team of ten, or register as an individual, and we can help you form a team.  Advance pizza orders from Aurelio’s will be available. Prizes will be awarded for best costume, best table decorations, trivia knowledge, and more. SLC “Minute of Empathy” – This year, the Service Learning Committee is launching a monthly “Minute of Empathy” that ties into our Pierce Downer Value of Being Empathetic.  Through these “minutes”, we are aiming to foster empathy and generate awareness for various causes and needs. The links we share will allow you to sit with your family at dinner, before bed, or while waiting for a carpool ride to show up, and take a minute (or several minutes!) to check out these resources together. The more awareness we have, the more empathetic we can be! Thank you to everyone who donated their Halloween candy to Operation Gratitude, because of you 350 pounds (13 boxes full) of candy was sent to our troops.  A HUGE thank you to Kelly Larson, Ziba Irvin and Kelly Henrikson for collecting and boxing all of the candy that was sent.

PTA Meeting & Presentation TONIGHT – The PTA is sponsoring a short presentation and Q&A with Dr. Kevin Russell, superintendent of DG58 TONIGHT at 7pm in the PD Library after a brief PTA meeting. Dr. Russell is excited to meet a lot of our PD parents!  Please note after Dr. Russell’s presentation, we will be voting on a few items that will impact the PTA budget.  The school has approached the PTA to purchase a new laminating machine to replace the old laminating machine from 2002.  The cost of the machine is $1,039.00.  Secondly, we will be voting to increase the teacher/staff supplies allowance from $75.00 to $150.00. Please plan on attending this informative meeting!  Babysitting will be provided.

Thank you to everyone who came out for our Evereve Fundraiser and who participated in the Mojo’s Fundraiser last week, because of you, we raised $812 (Evereve) and $261 (Mojo’s) for the PTA!!
