Reflections – In December, PTA Reflections honored all of the students that advanced to the DuPage East District level with an awards ceremony held at Herrick Middle School. In addition, they announced the student entries that further advanced to the Regional level competition. Pierce Downer has 5 students entering the Regional competition, which is wonderful achievement!

Also, we will be displaying some of the projects in the library for the next few weeks. Check out the beautiful artwork that was created. We are so proud of our Pierce Downer students!!
SLC (Service Learning Committee) – Spend Martin Luther King Junior Day giving back to nature. On the third Monday in January, people across the United States use Dr. Martin Luther King Day as a way to honor his legacy by giving back to the communities they call home. Lyman woods is offering a day of service on January 21st between 10am to 2pm. Activities will include habitat restoration, seed sorting and cleaning, trail and nature center improvements. Both indoor and outdoor work will be available. They will have coffee and snacks, and end the day with campfire and hot coco. There is no set schedule. Families, individuals, or groups are free begin and end their time volunteering when they choose. Anyone under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent. REMINDERS
PTA Nominating Committee – The PTA is looking for volunteers interested in serving on the nominating committee for next year’s board elections. We need to elect two general PTA members to this committee, in addition to one current board member. Individuals on the nominating committee are responsible for reviewing the applications of individuals interested in serving on next year’s PTA Board in the event that we have more than one individual interested in a particular position. After reviewing the applications, the committee will make a recommendation to the current board with regards to which candidate they feel is the most qualified. Anyone interested in serving on this committee should submit their names to Mariah Cameron at pdptapresident@gmail.com be

SLC- Feed My Starving Children – Are you looking to give back after the busy holiday season? Join the Service Learning Committee on Tuesday, 1/29/19 from 6:00-7:30pm at Feed My Starving Children in Aurora. SLC has reserved 50 spots to pack meals for hungry families worldwide. Parents should pack with their children because FMSC requires a 1 adult to 1 child ratio for K-2nd grade kids and a ratio of 1 adult to 3 children for 3rd-6th grade kids.
