NEW INFORMATION


Fun Lunch – It’s time to order Fun Lunch! This is open to all students Kindergarten through 6th grade that would like to participate. Fun Lunch will be on Fridays this year.  For information, ordering instructions and the link to order please click HERE.  Orders  for the first half of the year are due by next Thursday, September 6th.


STEAM – The STEAM committee is excited to bring a full year of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math offerings to PD.  Please watch this newsletter and the PTA website (STEAM tab) for additional programs.  In addition, if you would like to be a part of our committee or see if it may be a good fit for your volunteering time, please email Kate Urban at kateberry6@gmail.com.  You can be involved as much or as little as you like!

  • SPANISH, FRENCH, AND CHINESE: The Language Labs is back at Pierce Downer this year to host THREE different language classes: French, Spanish (two teachers for two levels to accommodate both beginners and advanced students), and a new offering this year, Chinese.  All classes are offered over lunch.   • CHESS: Chess Scholars is also back after school on Mondays from 3-4pm.  This is always a very popular offering for grades K-6! Click here for the flyer and more information on how to enroll.
 
REMINDERS
 
First PTA Meeting –  The first PTA meeting and New Family Welcome is scheduled for next Tuesday, September 4th at 6:30pm in the school gym. If you would like to review the proposed budget before the meeting, please click here.  Babysitting is provided.
 
Thank you to Sara Purgatorio, Victoria Jacknow and Jennifer Klemz for coordinating the Welcome Back Party! We’d also like to thank Brian Fogle at Liquid Concessions and John Tarczueski and Unilever/Food Humor/Popsicle for donating the popsicles and ice cream truck for yesterday’s event.

Welcome Back Party – Please join us on the school playground for a fun family event on Monday, August 27th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. A dj will be providing the music, Zazzos will be selling pizza and a drink for $4 (CASH ONLY) and all kids will receive a sweet treat! All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to attend.

Volunteer Sign Up –   We are still in need of volunteers for the following positions –   Variety Show Chair, 6th Grade DVD Chair, Room Reps, Service Learning Chair, Trivia Night Chair. School Supply Kits – If you ordered school supply kits from Carlson’s online back in May, they will be delivered directly to the school and will be waiting for the students in their classrooms on the first day of school.  The teachers will direct the students in labeling their supplies using the pre-printed name labels provided by Carlson’s.  Take note of the items that were NOT included in the kits (gym shoes, art smock, old sock, band/orchestra items, etc.) and send those with your student as needed on the first day.
