2018-2019 PD PTA Volunteer Opportunities

The Pierce Downer PTA is beginning to plan our volunteer opportunities for the 2018-19 school year and will again be using Sign Up to help us organize our volunteer efforts.   This information helps us form committees, especially those that need to be up & running in August (i.e.: New Family Welcome, Room Reps, Copy Helpers and Welcome Back Party).  Please sign up for what interests you.

NEW INFORMATION

End of Year Party – Don’t miss the End of the Year party on Thursday, May 31st from 5-8pm on the Pierce Downer playground. We are bringing back a Pierce Downer tradition after a 2 year hiatus. Come and mingle with your friends and let the kids play as we celebrate the end of another school year. A DJ will be mixing tunes and the Skuttlebutts food truck will be there with pizza , drinks and a treat for the kids. Please bring cash with you as Skuttlebutts will be charging for food ($3 slices and $1 drinks). The PTA will be providing kids with a free treat.
 

Teacher Wish Lists – The PTA voted at our general meeting on Friday to pay for the year-end wish lists of 15 individual teachers, plus a request for a Cricut machine, supplies and an annual subscription to Cricut online for the entire staff. The collective total was $8,346 of the money fundraised at Trivia night, Battle of the Bands and the various other smaller fundraisers. Thank you to EVERY FAMILY who has contributed to the PTA this year, as you have made these wishes come true! Gifts teachers requested include: pencil sharpeners, clipboards, new kindergarten chairs, staplers, magnetic white boards in the 1st grade break out rooms, new intervention curriculum for K-3, benchmark assessment kit, a new field day parachute, agility training kit, hokki stools, LRC display shelving, idea paint, wobble stools, book bins, new 1st grade area rug, plastic storage, bins for art, ball chairs, pod seats and ‘sculpture in a box’ kits. So many amazing gifts – thank you PD!

Staff Goodbye Party– Please join us on Monday, June 1st immediately after school in the gym for a going away party for Mrs. Clavenna, Ms. Sawisch, Mrs. O’Brien, Mrs. Kehm and Ms. Kettlehut. Join us for cake and light refreshments and wishing our staff members well.

 
Crossing Guard Collection – If you would like contribute to the Crossing Guards End of Year Gift please drop off your donation in the box marked “Crossing Guards” in the front office at school.
If you would like your name added on the cards please make sure to add your name on your envelope.  No checks please, as the money is going directly to the crossing guards. Please drop off your contribution by the end of school on Thursday, May 31st. Please contact Kelly Henrikson at kel624@gmail.com.

Reading Games – The 2019 Reading Games will be hosted at O’Neill Middle school on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Just like this year, we will include all interested teams. Team registration is currently set for any time between Monday, October 8th at 10am, through Sunday, October 14th at 9pm. Updates will be posted throughout the summer at our website, https://www.readinggamesdg58.com/. We look forward to seeing everyone next year! May the books be in your favor!

School Supply Kits – DEADLINE EXTENDED – 

Orders need to be placed by THIS THURSDAY, May 24th, for

Thank you to Teri Bonk and Joanna Matthies for organizing Teacher Appreciation Week! We also want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all who helped to make Teacher Appreciation Week 2018 the best that it could be!  Thank you to all who donated time, tasty baked goods, pretty paper products, beautiful center pieces, supplies, generous gift cards and so much more to make the week so special! The teachers and staff from Pierce Downer definitely felt very appreciated! If you donated a baked good item on a plate or platter and did not stop in the lounge at the end of the day to pick it up, please do so as soon as possible.  Thank you again to all who so generously donated to make Teacher Appreciation Week 2018 so wonderful!
