Special PTA Meeting TONIGHT at 7pm  Please join us to meet members of the District 58 school board, learn about new report cards for next year, updates on all the end of the year activities & meet the NEW PD Principal, Mrs. Clavenna! Snacks & refreshments will be served & babysitting will be provided.

Fun Run – The PD Fun Run/Walk is coming up right after school at 3:15pm on Thursday, May 11th.  We hope you will join us for this one mile walk or run!  Please fill out the Fun Run Registration and turn into the office with cash or check made out to Pierce Downer PTA.  The entry fee is $5 per person and preschoolers are free.  Please return form by May 5th to guarantee a drawstring bag.

Teacher Appreciation Week- Teacher Appreciation Week is May 1st – 5th. Please read the Teacher Appreciation Letter to for information and click http://signup.com/go/Uk5Qmc  to sign up and help the committee make this a great week for our wonderful teachers. For those dropping off gift cards, the collection is behind the door in the office (by the fax machine).

  • Science Workshop- Catapults with Mike Schaefer.  Grades K-6th. Monday, May 8th, 3-4:30pm, in the Pierce Downer Gym.  A Science Workshop where you’ll learn how to build catapults! Cost is $5, register by Friday, May 5th.  Register by clicking the link above.

Field Day – Field day has been set for Wednesday, June 7th. Please help make it a great day for the kids by volunteering to help. Be on the lookout for the volunteer sign up email coming out soon! Any questions contact Sara Purgatorio at Sarapurgatorio1@gmail.com. Also we are in need of spray bottles for one of the field day activities. If you have any to donate there will be a box outside the school office starting Wednesday.

Service Learning – The following events are for PD students and their families! The Service Learning Committee has set everything up for you.   • Spring Cleaning is here! Please bring your gently used household items to the Open House April 27th from 5:30pm-7:00pmA Sharing Connections’ truck will be parked at Pierce Downer graciously accepting your donation.   • April is Autism Awareness Month – SLC wants to share this educational video with you and your family! “Just Like You – Autism” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0w6carvS8k is a MidAmerica Emmy award winning video that was created to call our communities, our kids and the world to learn, understand and accept those living with autism.
  • PADS at St. Mary’s in Downers Grove has made a last minute request for volunteers to serve dinner THIS FRIDAY April 28: PADS is down 4 kitchen staff this week! Can you and your child (3rd- 6th grade) offer a one or two-hour shift sometime between 5:30pm – 8:00pm? We need students and their parents to prepare the food, serve guests soup, drinks and dessert and help with clean-up. Please RSVP to Jennie Amidei at jenamidei@gmail.com if interested and specify when you are available and the age of your child.

School Supply Kits – Place your student’s school supply kit order now for the 2016/2017 school year.  Order & pay ONLINE ONLY via www.carlsonschoolkits.com.  For complete ordering information click on ​ 2017 Supply Kit Flyer.  Orders will be accepted through Friday, May 19th.

Cubs Tickets – Unfortunately we are still waiting on some additional tickets from the Cubs and we want them to be distributed all at once. We will let everyone know the new pick up day as soon as possible. Any questions or concerns email Bethany Keown at bsk_bab@msn.com.
Thank you to all our parent & staff bands for an amazing performance on Saturday night at Ballydoyle!  Not only did we raise money for new white boards for the school, but we had a packed house of PD families and friends enjoying great music.  A big thank you to Lora Dominow and the Fundraising committee and the Battle of the Bands committee:  Kelly Henrikson, Kristen France and Bill & Chris Miller.

Thank you to Deidre Omahen and the Healthy Kids Committee for the many Earth Week Activities they organized last week. A special thank you to alumni PD parent Christy Greenblatt for leading us in Sunrise Yoga as well as Nicki Blattner, Janne Dombrowski, Sarah Farrero, and Elizabeth Dean.

Battle of the Bands Adult Show & PTA Fundraiser – Please join us at Ballydole THIS SATURDAY, April 22nd at 6:30pm for an evening of entertainment by our PD parent & staff bands.  There is a $10 suggested donation/cover charge at the door. This year we will have teacher experiences available to bid on. Click here for the list of experiences. Bidding will ONLY be at Ballydoyle from 6:30pm to 10:00pm! ALL proceeds from this years Battle of the Bands show will be used to purchase new white boards for ALL PD classrooms! See you at the show!

Battle of the Bands Table Raffle – This year we are raffling off 2 tables of 6 for the Battle of the Bands Show!  Don’t miss out on an opportunity to have the best seats in the house AND waitress service all evening!  Please look for the form in your child’s folder or click on BoB Table Raffle FormPlease turn in your form & cash or check into the office by lunchtime on THURSDAY, April 20th.  A staff member will draw names Thursday, April 20th during lunches and your table will be waiting for you Saturday evening!

Earth Week Activities – Earth Week is underway!  The PTA’s Healthy Kids Committee has the following activities planned for our students for the rest of the week:

  • Today- Nature Hike at Maple Grove Forest Preserve 3:30pm
  • Wednesday – Waste-free Lunch Raffle
  • Thursday – Sunrise Yoga 7:30am in the gym
  • Friday – Walk/Bike to School

Cubs Tickets – Cubs Tickets are in!  They will be handed out at after school THIS THURSDAY, April 20th.   An adult needs to pick up your tickets or a 6th grader can pick them up and they will have to sign for them.  They will be distributed right outside the front of the school.  Any questions or concerns email Bethany Keown at bsk_bab@msn.com.
