Service Learning Committee – Pierce Downer is excited to announce our new Service Learning Committee! This committee’s mission to inspire PD students to connect with individuals and families in need in and around our community by offering monthly service opportunities.Our very first volunteer opportunity is this Friday, October 28 for all PD students – “Trick-or-Treating for a Cause” at Lexington Health Care in Lombard. Meet us in costume at 3:30 for trick-or-treating through the hallways and playing boo bingo with the residents. We do need an RSVP by tomorrow to deidrelee1@gmail.
Donate Candy for Troops – Dreading all the candy your kids bring home from Halloween? Have no fear! From November 1st- 4th you can donate your unwanted/extra candy. Simply drop candy in the collection boxes in the front school lobby. The Healthy Kids Committee in collaboration with FedEx is collecting candy to be sent to Operation Gratitude who will send the candy to our troops stationed overseas during the holidays.
Reading Games – Mark your calendars! Registration for the 2017 Reading Games will open at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 3rd. Spots are limited and will fill up quickly! This year’s book lists and more information about The Reading Games can be found on The Reading Games website at https://sites.google.com/
Directory Spot – The Pierce Downer PTA Online Directory is available and has been updated with our 2016-17 Pierce Downer data! As a Pierce Downer PTA member, you should have to access the Online Directory and the Directory Spot App. All PTA members have been set up as a user. Reflections – This is the FINAL week to participate in the Reflections program!!! Projects are due THIS Friday, October 28, 2016. We met with each classroom to discuss Reflections and heard so much excitement from the students! Reflections is a national PTA art program where each student is encouraged to submit an entry in one or more of 6 creative categories (listed below, along with the general rules and special artist links) and receive recognition and prizes if their project advances. This year’s Reflections theme is: What is Your Story? As a reminder, each student who participates will receive a free gift certificate to Every Day’s a Sundae!
