Assembly – The PTA will be sponsoring an assembly next Tuesday, February 11th on Harriett Tubman. Harriet Tubman lived a truly remarkable life that all started living and working with her family on the Brodess plantation. When she faces the prospect of being sold “down South,” she makes her escape through the Underground Railroad to glorious freedom in Philadelphia, PA, returning 19 times to rescue over 300 others. For more information on Harriett Tubman, please click here.
SLC Empathy – In light of the joint SLC/Student Council Event at Lexington Healthcare Center, the student council would like the focus of this month’s Moment of Empathy to be Alzheimer’s Awareness. Alzheimer’s disease causes problems with memory, thinking, and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. The Alzheimer’s Association provides care and support to all those affected by Alzheimer’s; they advocate for public education; and they are the largest nonprofit funder of scientific research for a cure. Please take a moment to share these videos with your family to learn more about a great cause.

PTA Nominating Committee –The PTA is looking for volunteers interested in serving on the nominating committee for next year’s board elections. We need to elect two general PTA members to this committee, in addition to one current board member. Individuals on the nominating committee are responsible for reviewing the applications of individuals interested in serving on next year’s PTA Board in the event that we have more than one individual interested in a particular position. After reviewing the applications, the committee will make a recommendation to the current board with regards to which candidate they feel is the most qualified. Anyone interested in serving on this committee should submit their names to Stephanie Vroman at pdptapresident@gmail.com
FREE PTA Event – Be Internet Awesome! – Please save the date for Thursday, February 13th at 6:00 pm in the Pierce Downer gym to listen to an extremely informative presentation regarding Safety on the Internet given by our own PD staff and PTA. Pierce Downer was able to schedule this event through a PTA Grant, so it is completely free to the community. Best of all, because of this grant, food will be provided, prizes will be handed out, and each family will get to take home a series of guidelines to help us all navigate through internet safety better. Please use this Google form to RSVP. Questions? Contact Mrs. Collins at school.
