Trivia Night – Thank you so much to everyone that came out to Trivia Night! It was a HUGE success and fun was had by all. Thanks especially to some of our key sponsors – RE/MAX, Matthies Builders, Zach Frazier Orthodontics and all of the Pierce Downer family-owned businesses, the generosity of our local businesses and, of course, the PD Parents and staff that attended and also bid from home.A special thanks to the entire Trivia Night Committee – Co-Chairs Veronica Roche and Megan Shoemaker, members Vicky Farag, Lindsay Frost, Eric Meyers, Mike Morrissey, Mary Purcell, Beth Riley and Randy Riley. This success could not have happened without your hard work!

Author Fest is February 19-21st – The following authors are coming to Pierce Downer School: Suzanne Slade, Bibi Belford, Natalie Rompella and Jacob Grant. Jacob Grant will present to Kindergartners, Natalie Rompella will present to 1st, 4th and 5th grade students, and Bibi Belford will meet with 6th grade students.We are really lucky these authors are coming to present to our students during Author Fest. Pierce Downer PTA is sponsoring this amazing event! Author Fest is designed to help foster students love of reading and writing, possibly promote their love of art as well. There is also a chance to meet the authors as…..the Downers Grove District 58 PTA Council is hosting a Book Signing/ Meet the Author Event at the Downers Grove Public Library Feb 21st 6:30-8pm. Students may bring a copy of their book or buy one to be signed. Students can take a photo with their favorite author. All proceeds go back to PTA Council. Please click here to see flyer.
SLC Empathy – This month, the SLC is focusing on bringing joy to children in hospitals. Please take a quick moment with your family to visit the link here and create a Valentine’s Day card for a pediatric patient at Lurie Children’s Hospital. Each card you make will be printed and given to a child in the hospital to help offer encouragement and brighten their stay. Thank you for sending a “Handful of Love” to a child in need!
SLC February Event – A great way to help people experiencing homelessness is to set-up up beds for PADS recipients. More information and signup to come soon in February.
Open PTA Executive Board Positions for 2020/2021 – If you have a desire to serve on our PTA Executive Board, please let us know! The following positions are opening up: Co-President (this will be filled by a current member on our Executive Board), VP of Social, Secretary and Co-Treasurer. We are also always looking for new Chairpersons for many other positions on our PTA. The sign up for chairpersons will be sent out at the end of the year. FREE PTA Event – Be Internet Awesome! – Please attend this Thursday, February 13th at 6:00 pm in the Pierce Downer gym to listen to an extremely informative presentation regarding Safety on the Internet given by our own PD staff and PTA. Pierce Downer was able to schedule this event through a PTA Grant, so it is completely free to the community. Best of all, because of this grant, food will be provided, prizes will be handed out, and each family will get to take home a series of guidelines to help us all navigate through internet safety better.
