Six Flags Great America “Read to Succeed” Program – Grab a book or two over winter break and earn a ticket to Six Flags Great America! Students who log six hours of reading before Friday, February 15th earn a free ticket to Six Flags Great America! Forms will be sent home THIS WEEK. Please encourage your kids to start reading over winter break. Forms must be turned in to teachers by February 15th. STEAM Classes-
- Chess Scholars – Chess is back at PD this winter. Chess Scholars will be offering classes beginning Monday, January 28th from 3pm-4pm in a new room (Art/Music Room 208) and will run for 10 sessions. No experience necessary; the class is open to all students (K-6). Children will be taught the game and have guided practice time. Click here for flyer and registration.
- Sticky Fingers Cooking Classes – ACT FAST-Classes fill up quickly. Let your child release their inner chef! Students will prepare and eat healthy, international inspired recipes all while learning to cook in a fun, engaging, hands-on and real-world way! 100% nut free, vegetarian and happily accommodate for any and all food allergies. A winter session is being offered for grades K-6 beginning Tuesday, January 22nd in Room 208 from 3-4pm. This class is 8 sessions. Click here for more information and registration details.
Variety Show – The Variety Show is On! Thanks to everyone that volunteered for this year variety show! More information to come after holiday break.
REMINDERS
Fun Lunch – It’s time to order Fun Lunch! This is open to all students Kindergarten through 6th grade that would like to participate. Fun Lunch will be on Fridays this year. Below is the information you will need to register on www.boonli.com, whether you are a new or returning Pierce Downer family.
- On boonli.com, click on “register” to create an account. Please make sure to register each of your children that will be participating. The school password is PDE257. Select Second Half 2018/2019 when ordering.
- The website is very user-friendly and will fully explain how to order lunches. You must go to the shopping cart and pay online to complete the order. There is a nominal processing fee so that we can offer our lunch program online.
- Fun Lunch ordering will end on Friday, December 21, so please make sure you get all of your ordering in by this date. The first Fun Lunch will be Friday, January 11 and will go through the end of the year..

Crossing Guard Collection – If you would like contribute to the Crossing Guards Holiday Gift please drop off your donation in the box marked “Crossing Guards” in the front office at school. If you would like your name listed on the cards please make sure to add your name on your envelope. No checks please, as the money is going directly to the crossing guards.
