Fall Book Fair – The Scholastic Book Fair begins this week in the LRC. Students will preview the fair during LRC time on Wednesday before we open up to the public on Wednesday afternoon. Come out and support the LRC and the love of reading!
The fair will be open to all on the following dates/times:
- Wednesday, November 16th from 3pm-8pm
- Thursday, November 17th from 8:20am-8pm

Variety Show – Please mark your calendars and tell your kids to put their thinking caps on for the 2017 Variety Show! Dates are as follows:
- Thursday, January 26th – Auditions 3:00pm-5:00pm in the PD Gym
- Friday, January 27th – Auditions 3:00pm-5:00pm in the PD Gym
- Monday, February 6th – Rehearsal – First Half of Show 3:00pm-5:00pm in the PD Gym
- Tuesday, February 7th – Rehearsal – Second Half of Show 3:00pm-5:00pm in the PD Gyn
- Thursday, February 23rd – DRESS/TECH REHEARSAL (Beginnings/Ending/Bows) 3:15pm-5:15pm at TIVOLI
- Saturday, February 25th – Tivoli Show 10:00am-12:00pm

Reflections – We are so proud of our Pierce Downer students. We had 23 entries in this year’s PTA Reflections contest, “What is Your Story”. The entries are an amazing display of our school’s creativity and talent. Here are our participants:

Thank you to all of our participants. They have recently been judged at Pierce Downer, and then many will proceed to compete at the District level. All participants have earned themselves a coupon for a free scoop of ice cream from Everyday’s A Sundae that they will receive in the next couple of weeks. Great work, students!

- Your time to shine, it’s acting time! In Afterschool Stage Stars children will learn theater terms, play games, and act in short skits. Every student will have the opportunity to play at least one lead role per session.

- Students will explore a variety of brand new STEM related themes and topics! Each week the students will build a different moving model.

- Friday, November 18 from 4pm – 5pm : Tour of The Wellness House in Hinsdale – The Wellness House supports, educates and empowers individuals affected by cancer and their families. RSVP to by Thursday, 11/17 at 3pm! Space is limited. Click on link below for more information and registration.
- Saturday, November 19 from 8am – 10:30am: R.E.A.P. (Restore, Education, and Preserve) – Help preserve Belmont Prairie (Cross St and Haddow Ave in Downers Grove) by collecting seeds, restoring trails and removing invasive bush. RSVP by TODAY, 11/15. Be sure to fill out and bring the waiver as well.

Service Learning Veterans Day Cards – The Service Learning committee worked with Mr. Sisul to have students make thank you cards for Veterans during a recent indoor recess session. On Thursday November 10th, 70 wonderful cards made by Pierce Downer students were delivered to the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital for Veterans Day (photo below). They were going to be distributed by hospital staff to the veterans receiving care at the hospital. The students and teachers did a great job supporting this effort to honor our country’s Veterans!
