International Walk and Bike to School Day – TOMORROW – The PTA Healthy Kids Committee would like to encourage you and your students to walk or bike to school tomorrow, Wednesday, October 4th. Walk and Bike to School Day is a global event that involves communities from all over the world walking or biking to school on the same day. The class with the most walkers and bikers will receive the coveted Golden Sneaker award!
8th Annual Pierce Downer Haunted House Competition – All students are invited to take part in the 8th Annual Pierce Downer Haunted House Competition. Students can work alone or with one other student to create their own haunted house. This year we will have two categories: (1) houses based on a SINGLE shoe-box (2) tiny houses that measure less than 4 inches in any direction. Decorations and/or accessories can be store-bought; however, please note that haunted house kits from a store are not acceptable and no sound effects are allowed. Bring your finished house to the LRC starting Monday, October 23rd. Voting will take place on Wednesday, October 25th. Please see Ms. Elford if you have any questions.
Picture Retakes – If your student missed Picture Day or you wish to have them retake their pictures, please be aware that retakes are scheduled for October 26th. Even if you aren’t purchasing prints, we would like to have all children represented in class composites and our school yearbooks.
REMINDERS
Reflections – The Reflections program is back again for the 2017-18 school year! Last week, we met with each classroom to discuss the program and gain excitement from the students! Reflections is a national PTA art program where each student is encouraged to submit an entry in one or more of 6 creative categories (listed below, along with the general rules and special artist links). This year’s Reflections theme is: Within Reach. Click on the links below for detailed guidelines/rules per category from the Illinois PTA. Please review the rules carefully before your student begins his/her project. Also, please note that NO 3D entries will be allowed this year in the Visual Arts category.
