Battle of the Bands is BACK – We are so lucky to have so many musically talented individuals in our neighborhood. It has been our yearly tradition to recruit parents and form bands that get together to practice- with the end goal of performing at Ballydoyle in the spring. This year’s performance date is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, April 30th. In order to continue this ten year tradition- WE NEED YOU!! Do you play an instrument? Do you sing? Have you never performed on stage, but always wanted to? Now is your chance! We are looking for musicians of ALL ability levels to perform. You do not need a full band to register, we are happy to help form bands.
If you think that you or someone you know might be interested in joining, please fill out this FORM by November 8th. If you would like more information before committing, there is a space on the google form to indicate that as well. You can also reach out to us directly with any questions that you might have- Mariah Cameron at mariah_cameron@hotmail.com
Art Awareness and Reflections – Great news, both of these programs are back for this school year! We are still in need of co-chairs to assist Jamie Moss in Art Awareness and Teri Lawson in Reflections, please contact Francesca Rabchuk (benandfrancesca@gmail.com) if you are interested (descriptions of these programs follow):
- Art Awareness – This program supplements the school’s art program with in-class, parent-taught, monthly art lessons. Monthly responsibilities of the co-chair include sending out monthly notices and lesson plans to classroom volunteers. Twice a year (mid and end of school year), do inventory of AA cabinet supplies, purchase and replace supplies. Sporadically, pass reimbursement forms onto the treasurer, maintain cabinets/supplies and answer volunteers’ questions. Requires minimal time but occasional school visit.
- Reflections – Reflections is a national PTA art program where students submit entries pertaining to 6 different artistic categories. Primary responsibilities include getting kids excited for the program (sending blurbs to the newsletter, visiting classrooms), ensuring that each participant follows the program rules, collecting and organizing projects for judging and celebrating each student’s achievements.
Halloween Candy Collection – PTA Healthy Kids Committee is collecting Halloween Candy Donations at Pierce Downer from Monday, Nov 1st through Friday, Nov. 5th. All Halloween Candy Donated will be given to the DG Fish Pantry and the St. Joe’s Food Pantry for families in need. Students may bring in candy bags to school into the front office where the PTA Healthy Kids Committee Candy Donation bins will be. Thank you in advance for donating your Halloween Candy!
