Homecoming Parade – Calling all future DGN graduates!  Come show your Panther Pride and march in this year’s DGN Homecoming parade this Friday, September 22nd!  Please wear PURPLE or your child’s t-shirt with graduation year (distribution of ordered shirts to come soon) and bring candy to throw to the crowd. Children in Kindergarten-3rd grades must be accompanied on the parade route by a parent or guardian.  Remind children to walk and stay with the PD group. Please meet outside at the DG North Main Street parking lotlike years past where everyone lines up. Any questions, please contact Sarah Houlihan at sarahhoulihan@me.com or Mandi Cosenza at mandilfoster@yahoo.com.

 
Gifts & Goods Fundraiser – Thanks to all who have participated in our Gifts and Goods fundraiser! If you have not yet participated, keep in mind 50% of all wrapping paper sales and 40% of all kitchen and home items will go directly to Pierce Downer PTA! You can order online or, with an order form, additional packets are available in the school office! Please contact Lora Dominow with any questions ldominow@yahoo.com.
 
STEAM (Science,Technology,Engineering,Art & Math) – 
  • Spanish Classes are being offered before school and during lunch this year!
    • Language Stars will teach Spanish on Tuesdays before school starting October 17th. Click here for information on how to register your child.
    • Language Labs will teach Spanish on Mondays during lunch/recess starting September 25th.  Click here for information on how to register your child.
  • Chess Club – Stay tuned for information about Chess Club. Time, day and start date of the session will be posted next week.

Curriculum Night – Pierce Downer’s Curriculum Night is THIS Thursday, September 7th starting at 5:30pm (check the school web site for your grade’s specific time slot).  Each classroom’s PTA Room Representative will speak briefly about their role and how you can sign up online for classroom parties and art awareness.  The online sign-up will be released the following day, Friday 9/8 at noon via PTA email.

 

Watts of Love–  Thanks to everyone who came to help at Watts of Love last week.  Below is the thank you we received from them.

We could not have been more grateful for the help. The turnout was tremendous and I loved hearing the kids thoughts and reactions about the lights. I was so impressed with their desire to want to help and their eagerness to pitch in. I hope everyone found it worthwhile.

DGN Homecoming Parade – TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY TO PLACE YOUR ORDER! Order your shirts with your graduation year to walk in the DGN homecoming parade on September 22nd right after school!  Shirts are $12.00/each.  Click here to view the order form.  Any questions, please contact Sarah Houlihan at sarahhoulihan@me.com or Mandi Cosenza at mandilfoster@yahoo.com.

Annual Giving Campaign – It’s been a great start to this new school year and your PTA has been hard at work!  What we worry about the most at this time is “are we going to raise enough money to support all of our PTA sponsored programs this year?”  We sure hope so!   That’s why we are again launching our Annual Giving Campaign! This year it will cost the PTA $85/per student to fund all of our current programs. If every family donated $85 per child, we would not have to do any other fundraisers.  While we know this isn’t possible, we are asking parents to donate what suits your family.  We hope to have 100% participation this year.  The amount we receive from this campaign will determine the rest of the year’s fundraising goals. Please give what you can.  All amounts are appreciated.  The Pierce Downer PTA is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization.  Your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

 
Panther Pacers – The bi-weekly Panther Pacers program begins today!  Panther Pacers is a program designed to keep kids moving during their lunch recess.  Twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays) during the Fall and Spring months, students can walk/run/skip around a “track” to earn tokens.  Eight laps around the field is equivalent to a mile, and for every mile students complete, they are awarded a token.  Special tokens are awarded for milestones such as the 5k, 10k, half, and full marathon.  Please let your students know about this fun program and encourage them to stay active as the weather begins to cool.  Contact Nicki Blattner at pattonnicki@hotmail.com with any questions.
