Coding Club – Due to popular demand, another session of the Pierce Downer Coding Club will begin after Spring Break for students in grades 3-5. This club is for interested students who participated in the first Coding Club session, as well as students with little or no knowledge of Scratch programming who are keen to learn how to create animated stories and games. Click here for the coding club permission slip and here for the Scratch permission slip. Previous Coding Club members need only return the Pierce Downer Coding Club permission slip; new members must send in both that form and a filled-out DG58 Student Online Account Permission Form. Please return all forms by Friday, March 24th.

Destination Imagination – Destination Imagination or “DI” is a hands-on program that encourages creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic challenges that are showcased at a tournament. Each team learns to work together, generates their own ideas, does their own research, makes their ideas come to life and presents their work in the form of a story and presentation.

  • The Team called www.Olama. com consisted of seven 6th graders — Ryan Amidei, Will Beatty, Drew Fieldman, Malini Fisher, Pallavi Fisher, Rajan Fisher and Emilia Wilhelm — who competed at the middle school level in the Fine Arts Challenge. This 6th grade team created an 8 minute original musical they wrote and performed. Www.olama. com received a 3rd place trophy and will be advancing to the state tournament on March 24th!! Also, they came in 1st place for their instant challenge!
  • The team, “The Rocky’s,” consisted of five 4th graders —  Nathan Amidei, JT Farrero, Nathan Haasch, Shane Omahen, Sachin Sinnappan. This group of 4th graders competed at the elementary level in the Scientific Challenge and came in 5th place out of 11 schools!! The Rocky’s had to create and build an amusement park attraction, write a story that included the attraction being located in an unlikely setting, and present the story in the form of a skit.

We are so proud of all these students’ effort, creativity, teamwork and dedication to this intense season of Destination Imagination….well done! And a HUGE thank you to all the parent leaders who invested their time and energy into guiding these students!
