Classroom Volunteer Sign Up

Dear Pierce Downer Parents,
 
As mentioned at Curriculum Night, we are using an online system for parents to volunteer for classroom parties and Art Awareness.  Starting today, you may sign up via the SignUp website. A few points about this automated system:
  • Once you click on the Sign Up link below, select your desired classroom, then enter your email address.  Note:  Sign Up does not share email addresses;  this allows them to send out an automated reminder prior to the event.  You are now at the main screen where you can view positions by month (simply click on the tab for Sept 2018, Oct 2018, etc.).  Position descriptions will provide details such as event, date & time, quantity, and what is expected of the volunteer.
  • Be sure to “Confirm Your Spot(s)” before closing the web page.
  • It is easier to view and navigate Sign Up on a full-screen computer.  The mobile browser works, but it is a little harder to move between months, and it will not show the names of other volunteers (critical if you plan to work with a friend on Art Awareness, for example).
  • In order to ensure parents have equal opportunities to volunteer, parents may only sign up for one classroom holiday party (classroom party or tivoli field trip) per year for each child.  This limit will be lifted 24 hours after the sign up is released.  After noon on Thursday, September 13th, parents may sign up for additional parties if available.  There is no limit for Art Awareness sign ups. You may sign up for as many as you would like.

  • For a complete description of Art Awareness, click on Art Awareness Program. You can also view lessons on our website at http://piercedownerpta.org/art-awareness/ The password to view lessons is- AA2018 Keep in mind that an Art Awareness lesson can be held at any time during your designated month, on a day/time that is mutually agreeable for the parent volunteer(s) and classroom teacher.  Exception:  1st Grade runs art immersions on pre-determined dates.  Please sign up for 1st Grade only if you can commit to the exact date and time listed on Sign Up.

Curriculum Night – Pierce Downer’s Curriculum Night is TONIGHT starting at 5:30pm (check the school web site for your grade’s specific time slot).  Each classroom’s PTA Room Representative will speak briefly about their role and how you can sign up online for classroom parties and art awareness.  The online sign-up will be released tomorrow at noon via PTA email.

STEAM – The Language Labs has received several requests to include kindergarten in their classes. GOOD NEWS: Spanish and Chinese are open to kindergarten students!  French will open to Kindergarten if the demand is great enough. If you are interested in enrolling your kindergarten student, please enroll or reach out to Chinni at The Language Labs (see flyer) so that the demand can be determined. Thank you for your interest! REMINDERS
 
Annual Giving Campaign & PTA Membership – It’s been a great start to this new school year and your PTA has been hard at work! What we worry about the most at this time is “are we going to raise enough money to support all of our PTA sponsored programs this year?”  We sure hope so!   That’s why we are again launching our Annual Giving Campaign! This year we need to raise $85/per student to fund all of our current programs. If every family donated $85 per child, we would not have to do any other fundraisers.  While we know this isn’t possible, we are asking parents to donate what suits your family.  We hope to have 100% participation this year.  The amount we receive from this campaign will determine the rest of the year’s fundraising goals. Please give what you can.  All amounts are appreciated.  The Pierce Downer PTA is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization.  Your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. We encourage everyone to become an active member of our PTA! By joining, you’ll have voting rights on decisions that affect our school. 
  • A Single PTA Membership costs $15 and gives you one login for our Directory Spot App.
  • A Family Membership costs $20 and gives you access to the Directory Spot App for the entire family. 
  • Directory Spot provides easy access on the go for phone numbers and emails for other Pierce Downer families.  Note, we will not be printing a paper directory.

Gifts & Goods Fundraiser – You can order online (click here) or, with an order form, additional packets are available in the school office!  Our school code is 11468. Great holiday gift ideas, items will be received and distributed before winter break.  50% of all wrapping paper sales and 40% of all kitchen and home items will go directly to Pierce Downer PTA! Stop by the display cabinet (outside of the office) at curriculum night to see a sample of the items being sold. ORDER DEADLINE IS NEXT TUESDAY 9/18!  Please contact Nicki Blattner with any questions at pattonnicki@hotmail.com.
 

Panther Pacers – Panther Pacers volunteers needed.  Tuesdays and Fridays during the fall and spring, students can run/walk/skip around a “track” to earn tokens during lunch recess.  Eight laps is equivalent to a mile!  Parent volunteers are needed to run the biweekly program.  Please follow this link to sign up for individual day spots.  Any specific questions can be referred to Lisa Henrickson at lisa.a.henrickson@gmail.com.
